the pentagon papers were originally discovered and released during in 1971 by Daniel Ellsberg during the Vietnam war, at first this papers had a huge impact in society because the public never had any big suspicions about the government and it’s flaws but, after this papers were released to most know newspapers the “New York times” everyone was shocked. Even the article itself explained that the Johnson administrator systematically lied not only to the public but also the congress. On top of that, the papers revealed that the U.S. had secretly enlarged the scale of the Vietnam War with the bombings of nearby Cambodia and Laos, coastal raids on North Vietnam, and Marine Corps attacks, none of which were reported in the mainstream media. After that for the disclosure of the Pentagon Papers, Ellsberg was charged with conspiracy, espionage and theft of government property, but the charges were later dropped after prosecutors that were investigating the Watergate Scandal discovered that the staff members in the Nixon White House were ordered that the so called White House Plumbers to engage in illegal efforts to discredit Ellsberg. Now the real connection between now and then was that by leaking this files back then over time the public got encouraged to stand up against their government and do so, and then Edward Snowden came doing the impossible again, now as stated before Edward Snowden is an American computer professional who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA), starting in June 2013. A former system administrator for the Central Intelligence Agency a.k. the CIA and a counterintelligence trainer at the Defense Intelligence Agency a.k.a the DIA, he later worked for the private intelligence contractor Dell inside an NSA outpost in Japan. In March 2013, he joined the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton inside the NSA center in Hawaii. Now after working for the NSA he released all this files that basically humiliated the United States Government he was of course then fired from his job but since we grew as a society the public did not get overwhelmed by this since there was already conspiracies that the government was lying about a lot of things during that era of time, but it did prove a point that the government keeps information from the public so the public does not get overwhelmed of their flaws and their wrong doing. After Snowden this the only ones who were not happy were was only the government because according to one of the congressmen this was the government playbook, and by doing so this can put a lot of soldiers man and woman at risk
